Dear Parents and Candidates:
Welcome! We are looking forward to sharing this journey of faith with you and your family as you prepare to receive the sacrament of Confirmation. Confirmation preparation involves learning, sharing, serving, spiritual growth, and fellowship! You will be given the opportunity to learn more about your Catholic faith and what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.
Confirmation is the Sacrament in which one is enriched by the gift of the Holy Spirit and bound more perfectly to the Church. It strengthens us and obliges us to be witnesses to Christ by word and deed and to spread and defend the faith.
Confirmation is the Sacrament that perfects Baptismal grace; it is the sacrament which gives us a fuller participation in the Holy Spirit in order to root us more deeply as children of God, incorporates us more firmly into Christ, strengthen our bond with the Church, associate us more closely with her mission, and help us to bear witness to the Christian faith in words accompanied by deeds.
Confirmation is a gift and is offered to those who have been properly prepared and who freely choose to be confirmed. Parishes have the responsibility to provide adequate opportunities to prepare for celebrating this sacrament.
The 2022/2023 Confirmation Programs will begin in late September, . SLKF will have one parent/candidate meeting, 6 Sunday morning classes, a Sunday Retreat on SLKF’s campus, a ceremony rehearsal the evening before Confirmation, and of course, the big ceremony. SLKF Confirmation is scheduled for Wednesday, March 22, 2023 with Bishop Cheri acting as celebrant. We schedule our mandatory training dates as best as possible; taking into account extra-curricular activities, holidays, and events throughout the city. Classes take place on Sunday mornings, 9am-11:30am; attendance at 9am Mass followed by classroom training. We also feel spreading the training sessions across 6 months is more feasible to student and parent schedules than consecutive weekend dates.
We are pleased to say that Mr. Mark Bordelon will once again serve as our RCIA Instructor! Call Becky at (504) 834-9977, or email [email protected] as soon as possible. Feel free to SPREAD THE WORD! This program is open to all 16 year-olds / Juniors in high school, who are currently enrolled in religious education.
As per the Archdiocese of New Orleans, candidates must be at least 16 years old, registered as a junior in Catholic high school, have received 1st Holy Communion, and have gone through consecutive years of religious education / CCD classes prior to their training. Religious Education classes taken by students who do not attend catholic school, should be classes offered either in the church parish or in a Catholic school. The Archdiocese recognizes no other programs or schools for preparing your child's Religious Faith formation.
We look forward to hearing from you and hope you will choose SLKF to guide you through the Sacrament of Confirmation.
